Timeless Clocks

Since the dawn of time (pun very much intended), humans have tracked the passage of days. On a trip to Baker, Nevada, we learned that the Fremont people marked the solar equinox by tracking the sun’s path through two mountain peaks shaped like the wings of an owl. Sundials, water clocks, Stonehenge, hour glasses, harvest seasons, mountain peaks —the way we marked time used to be as big as the concept itself.

How a society tracks and celebrates time reveals what it values. The way it measures its seasons shows how it sustains itself—and what it believes is worth honoring.

If, as Annie Dillard wrote, how we spend our days is how we spend our lives, than the way we tell time should reflect what matters most dearly to us. We founded W.H. Clocks on one simple principle: The way we tell time matters.

We became obsessed with breaking the conventions of the 12-hour clock. We decided to start building clocks that combined utility and art, creating beautiful representations of the days and years that make up our one precious life.

We called them “timeless clocks” because they transcended the conventional 12-hour clock. The duration of revolutions in our clocks is completely customizable. The shortest clock we’ve designed is 3 hours, and the longest is 12 years.

A tale as old as time…

Our Philosophy

Maybe the point isn't to live more, in the literal sense of a longer or more productive life, but rather, to be more alive in any given moment—a movement outward and across, rather than shooting forward on a narrow, lonely track.

About Us

We’re Laura and Steve, husband and wife. He’s an engineer, she’s a storyteller. We’re both self-taught horologists. We believe in getting outside, slowing down and building something real. Steve designs W.H. Clocks’ signature technology, and Laura designs the clock faces.

We love designing custom pieces, so talk to us about how we can make your vision into functional art.
